    Job Summary:

    The Mabee Legal Information Center (MLIC) at the University of Tulsa invites candidates for a Collection Services Librarian. This position reports to the Director of the Mabee Legal Information Center and is responsible for metadata and systems functions for the MLIC. Collections Services Librarian will enjoy working independently, while successfully collaborating with both library staff and faculty and students to provide enhanced access to a broad range of library materials and services. This position will collaborate with other technical services librarians in the broader university library system.

    Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

    Metadata

    • Catalogs and creates metadata for library resources, including archival and special collections, in all formats and applying relevant metadata standards from the Library of Congress and other authorities
    • Manages discoverability and access for all electronic and print resources
    • Participates in metadata projects and collaborates on metadata initiatives with other libraries on the University of Tulsa Campus.

    Systems

    • Provides support for integrated library systems, for MLIC staff and patrons
    • Assists with administration of library systems
    • Troubleshoots electronic resources and library systems
    • Collaborates with library stakeholders, other campus libraries, and IT to integrates new systems, assesses library tools, and finds creative solutions to enhance the management of library resources.

    Other

    • Leads and supervises special projects, including working with archival or special collections
    • Supports Interlibrary loan activities
    • Compiles data and statistics for internal and external reports

    Required Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent experience in library metadata and systems
    • 1-3 years of technical services and academic law library experience
    • Fundamental understanding of the purposes, obligations, and functions of an academic law library
    • Practical familiarity with library cataloging and metadata structures, and relevant tools for data manipulation.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patrons, staff, and administration
    • Excellent collaborative and customer service skills, able to work effectively with patrons, staff, administration, and contacts outside the university
    • High attention to detail, able to establish effective priorities and deadlines


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience with Alma, WMS, OCLC, SpringShare, OCLC EZ Proxy, and Digital Commons
    • Experience with ILS administration and migration
    • Experience with managing electronic resources and working with resource vendors
    • J.D. from an ABA accredited program
    • 3-5 years of technical services or academic law library experience

    Physical Demands

    Must be able to work with physical collections, which requires standing, bending, lifting library materials, pushing loaded books carts, climbing stools, etc.
