Anthony Gaughan is a Professor of Law and the Kern Family Chair in Law at Drake University Law School where he teaches Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Election Law, and Evidence. Professor Gaughan received his J.D. from Harvard Law School and his Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
His recent articles include Redistricting in the Political Thicket: The Ghosts of Colegrove v. Green, 111 Kentucky Law Journal 589 (2023); The Influence of Partisanship on Supreme Court Election Law Rulings, 36 Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy 553 (2022), The Dynamics of Democratic Breakdown: A Case Study of the American Civil War, 11 British Journal of American Legal Studies 113 (2022), and James Madison, Citizens United, and the Constitutional Problem of Corruption, 69 American University Law Review 1485 (2020).
Prior to joining the Drake Law School in 2011, he was a litigator with the law firm of Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. He is a former U.S. Navy officer and Iraq veteran who was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal.
