    The Jerome Hall Law Library of Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law, Bloomington, Indiana, is seeking collaborative, service-oriented applicants for the tenure-track position of Metadata and Discovery Services Librarian. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the timely and effective discovery of the Law Library’s collections. This includes creating and maintaining accurate metadata in the library catalog, the Law School’s institutional repository, and other discovery tools, along with supervising or advising three staff members who perform cataloging and related work. The Metadata and Discovery Services Librarian is also the point person for collection management activities such as the transfer of materials to the Auxiliary Library Facility, removal of materials, and collection inventory projects. In addition, it is incumbent on the Metadata and Discovery Services Librarian to maintain effective communication with other metadata librarians across all IU Libraries.

    The Metadata and Discovery Services Librarian is one of two faculty librarians in the Technical Services Department, which also includes five full-time staff members.

    Who We Are

    The Jerome Hall Law Library serves the 650 students and more than 60 faculty members of the IU Maurer School of Law, the students and faculty of the larger Bloomington campus, and the public. It is part of the network of IU Libraries, giving users ready access to millions of items. IU Bloomington is frequently cited as one of the prettiest college campuses in the U.S., and Bloomington itself is a vibrant, progressive college town nestled in the hills of southern Indiana.     Primary Responsibilities

    • Coordinate and participate in all cataloging and metadata work for materials in all formats, including electronic resources. 
    • Oversee all forms of authority control for the Law Library, including the creation of new authority records if necessary.
    • Supervise the Monographs Cataloger and, in part, the Serials Specialist.
    • Advise the Government Information Librarian and Government Documents Cataloger on cataloging government documents.
    • Set policies and procedures for all cataloging, metadata, and discovery services, answer questions from others relating to the specialized functions of cataloging, metadata and discovery, and coordinate the work of those staff members whose duties involve these functions.
    • Create statistical reports on the Law Libary’s collections.
    • Coordinate Law Library accounts and contact with OCLC.
    • Serve as Law Library point person for all Sirsi/Dynix Workflows matters including updates, troubleshooting, and training. This requires coordination with IU Bloomington’s Wells Library.
    • Liaise with Wells Library’s cataloging librarians and represent the Law Library in the IU Cataloging Congress.
    • Coordinate and/or participate in projects of the Technical Services team.
    • Participate in library administrative staff meetings, Technical Services team meetings, and other meetings as necessary. 
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Required Qualifications
    1. MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library school
    2. At least 2 years of recent cataloging and metadata experience or equivalent expertise
    3. Ability to meet university tenure standards for librarians https://libraries.indiana.edu/file/promotion-and-tenure-criteria-iub-librarians-pdf.
    4. Strong service attitude and proven ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
    5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
    6. Flexibility and creativity to be effective in a changing environment
    7. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other units and staff, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
    8. Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to use judgment in response to unforeseen circumstances
    Desired Qualifications
    1. Experience with Sirsi/Dynix Workflows or similar LMS
    2. At least 2 years of supervisory experience
    3. Experience in planning and managing catalog- or collection-related projects
    4. Experience with statistical collection and reporting
    5. Experience with batch loading records for electronic resources into an LMS
